GENERAL INFORMATION

Based on the Decision on the organization and implementation of the doctoral study program in Molecular Biosciences of February 20, 2006, the study program was organized in the academic year 2005/2006.

The permit for conducting studies from the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports was obtained on December 20, 2007.

Interdisciplinarity is a fundamental feature of the doctoral study program in Molecular Biosciences, which functionally integrates:

the area of natural sciences – field of biology and field of chemistry

the area of biomedicine and healthcare – the field of basic medical sciences,

the area of biotechnical sciences – field of food technology, field of agriculture (agronomy)

The doctoral study program in Molecular Biosciences includes:

compulsory cases

methodological elective courses

electives in different modules

Modules

materials science and new technologies

bioinformatics

biology

biology of the sea

plant biology

biomedicine

The doctoral study lasts six semesters: compulsory and methodological elective courses are taken in the first semester, elective courses in modules are taken in the second semester, and in the remaining semesters the student is dedicated exclusively to the preparation of a doctoral dissertation. Upon completion of the study, the academic degree of Doctor of Science in the interdisciplinary field of science is obtained, indicating at least two scientific fields to which the content of the doctoral thesis belongs.

The price of doctoral studies is €7,000.00

Study admission requirements

1

Candidates who have completed university graduate, university integrated undergraduate and graduate studies or university specialist studies and undergraduate studies according to the study system before 2005 can enroll in the study, as follows:
  • from the area of biotechnical, biomedical and natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, food technology, chemical engineering, biotechnology, human and veterinary medicine, dental medicine, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, agriculture and forestry);
  • other university graduate, integrated university undergraduate and graduate studies with the completion of prerequisite subjects determined by the Council for Interdisciplinary Doctoral Studies.
  1.

2

The study can be enrolled by candidates who have completed a master's degree in an appropriate postgraduate study program. The number of recognized ECTS credits for enrollment in a particular semester is approved by the Council for Interdisciplinary Doctoral Studies, depending on the submitted qualifications (academic degree of Master of Science, number of published papers, participation in conferences, etc.).

3

The study program can be enrolled by candidates whose average grade in the university graduate, integrated university undergraduate and graduate studies was at least 3.5. Candidates whose grade is below 3.5 have the exceptional right to enroll, provided that they have a recommendation from two reputable scientists or university professors from the higher education institution from which they graduated.

4

Knowledge of one world language (e.g. English).

The application for the competition must contain

  • personal data of the applicant with an indication of the address of the residence,
  • biography
  • motivational letter and a brief description of scientific research interest
  • a copy of the certificate of the dominance or proof of nationality
  • certified copy of the diploma on completed undergraduate or graduate university studies
  • transcript of ratings with a prominent average score to be higher than 3.5
  • recommendations of two distinguished scientists or university professors of the higher education institution where they graduated (if the average is less than 3.5)
  • a statement of knowledge of a world language
  • confirmation of the institution or the applicant's statement in writing on the obligation to pay tuition fees

Applications are submitted in person or sent by post within 30 days of the publication of the competition to the address:
Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek
Department of Biology
Emperor Hadrian Street 8/A
31000 Osijek
with the indication "application for molecular bioscience study"
