Subject objective:

To recognize modern methods of soil conditioning as environmentally friendly measures with a favorable impact on the soil and the environment and ecosystem.

Case contents:

The basic division of conditioners, their impact on the properties of the soil and the availability of feeds. The basics of technology and production of soil conditioners as well as their physical and chemical properties. Conditioners and soil repair, conditioner application. The acidity of the soil and the need for calcification, and the need for humization as the most significant measures. Selection and application of new and alternative materials and methods for conditioning the soil. Seminar including calculation of the optimal amount of conditioner, quality assessment, fertilization and ecological effect of the analyzed conditioner.

Learning outcomes: competences, knowledge, skills that the subject develops:

1. Explain the properties, production and application of soil conditioners and their impact on the ecosystem.
2. Assess the characteristics of a particular type of conditioner important in plant nutrition and conditioning of the soil in order to increase the accessibility of soil feeds and microbiological activities while raising the content of soil organic matter and reducing the carbon footprint.
3. Judge on the benefits of different soil conditioning materials.
4. Estimate the optimal amounts of conditioners that need to be added depending on the properties of the soil.
