The year in which the case is submitted: Year I
The semester in which the case is submitted: Semester II
Subject objective:

To learn the specific aspects of metabolomics as an essential branch of the so-called "omics" of analytical scientific fields and to understand the importance of interdisciplinary nature in comprehensive biomedical research.

Case contents:

- Interdisciplinary nature of biomedical research
- Omics approaches
- Metabolism and generation of metabolites
- Specifics of metabolomic research
- Basic methods of metabolomics, preparation and analysis of samples, analysis and interpretation of results
- Targeted and general approaches, complementarities of methods
- Mass spectrometry - the specifics and possibilities of liquid and gas chromatography
- "Targeted" and "untargeted" metabolomics
- Use of metabolomics

Learning outcomes: competences, knowledge, skills that the subject develops:

1. Critically interpret the results of publications in the field of metabolomics.
2. Apply an appropriate approach to metabolomic research.
3. Analyse new data from available databases in areas -omics, in particular metabolomics.
4. Predict the use of metabolomics in other scientific fields and disciplines.
